Mobilizing Our World: ETHERO’s BESS Technology

A diagram displaying various applications of a Battery Energy Storage System from ETHERO Truck + Energy.

A BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) is a popular option that ETHERO’s e-mobility solutions engineers can implement to energize your charging equipment needs. With a BESS, you have the power that comes from owning your own energy and optimizing your energy consumption.

A BESS is one of the systems that can be used to power ETHERO’s mobile charging trailers. But there are many industries that use ETHERO’s BESS technology to power their work. ETHERO’s parent company, Carter Machinery, uses BESS units to power equipment on various job sites. BESS units are also commonly implemented in construction projects. Production companies have rented BESS units from Carter for movie and television sets where infrastructure is limited. The annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival uses BESS models to power light and sound production for the over 100 artists who perform at the weekend-long event.

ETHERO has various BESS units that range in size, depending on your charging needs. Our largest units can store 575kWh of energy and deliver a maximum output of 250kw. Up to eight of these units can be chained together to increase energy storage. These units are often paired with a generator to ensure seamless integration to meet prime power demands and maximize fuel savings The higher the charge rate, the more capacity needed for the BESS powering your infrastructure.

ETHERO’s larger BESS models weigh about 26,000 pounds (about the weight of a school bus), but ETHERO’s smaller BESS models are under 15,000 pounds and can be towed by a pickup truck. They’re equipped with a multitude of safety features, including built-in fire suppression units, and can connect in parallel with up to eight other BESS units at a time to enable maximum usage. A BESS includes a built-in cooling AC system. When the AC is running, the noise level is below 86 dB, which is significantly quieter than a diesel generator, sounding similar to an outdoor AC unit. When the AC is off, the unit operates in complete silence. So, during cooler months or in milder temperatures, you might not even notice it’s running at all.

ZEV chargers can connect to a BESS, to local utilities at your facility, or to a generator to emit the energy needed to power your fleet. If you do not have access to grid power at your facility, ETHERO can supply hybrid solutions that include a BESS. Oftentimes, BESS units are paired with generators or solar arrays to maximize fuel savings and ensure sustainable power. Solar panel options are portable and can provide up to 4000kWh of recharge every day. BESS units can even be programmed to recharge from a generator and then turn off the generator once energy levels have been replenished.

Connecting a mobile trailer system to your onsite utilities does not make any permanent changes to your infrastructure but can be a convenient tool for on-the-go use. As customizable units, ETHERO’s multipurpose trailers can travel anywhere to ensure that your EV trucks always have a charger nearby or that your job site has a BESS, even when you are in an area lacking both zero-emissions charging infrastructure and traditional utilities.
